Årets upplaga av Tomatina-festivalen, även kallad världens största matkrig, lockade runt 20 000 glada deltagare som kastade 145 ton övermogna tomater på varandra. Inga skador har rapporterats, men det kan misstänkas att ett flertal klädesplagg måste slängas.

Festivalen kom till efter att ett antal ungdomar 1945 ska ha stulit tomater från en grönsakshandlare och startat ett spontant matkrig.

Tomatinan förbjöds i flera år under general Francos diktatur, men klassades 2002 som en del av Spaniens nationella arv och är i dag en färgstark turistattraktion som lockar tusentals turister och genererar stora inkomster till den lilla staden väster om Valencia.
